![]() ![]() But I know there are certain firewalls that can allow splashtop & teamviewer but block the file transfer over these applications. I cannot remember if admins can set Mark (Splashtop) splashtop only to use "screens" of the other machine without enabling file transfer (like Teamviewer where file transfer is another function). What is your exact questions ? Are you bringing home machines to office or using home machines to connect into office machines ? Gartner and security experts are recommending cloud-based, application-level, identity-based (MFA/SSO) remote access solution, Splashtop remote access is at application-level. Network-level VPN opens up too much privilege for users as home network and BYOD devices are given too much trust (once vpn is established, home is part of the corporate network), allowing for malware to make lateral movements from home into corporate (including ransomware). Gartner and many "zero trust" security vendors are all recommending people to move away from using network-level VPN access for remote work. Device authentication is built-in so IT can also limit the user to only have a dedicated BYOD computer for remote access. this will also add a layer of additional security if you can enforce password policy through your directory services. ![]() so the BYOD computer isn't potentially used by unauthorized person. Our recommendation was that IT should ensure 2FA is activated and made mandatory. IT wasn't able to procure enough new computers nor have enough old computers to re-image. We do have some business customers using BYOD with Splashtop, especially when COVID hit, there was a major shortage of computers. Chrome remote desktop also seems to be an problem for various reasons.īasically i need a solution that runs before windows is logged in, so i can log out of windows, and log back in the next time i connect.Īnyone have any ideas about a service that will work for me? Thanks in advance.First, thank you for being a Splashtop customer.Īs Brianinca said, most secured model is to use corporate managed computer with endpoint security running. What other trusted options exist that could fit my needs? I'm not going to use regular RDP or VNC, due to the necessary port forwarding and other reasons like RDP logging out the current user, making it impossible for the person on the other end to see what i'm doing. So it seems that Splashtop is unusable too. Unfortunately, when i try to connect to a PC at my house from another location, or the reverse, it says i need to buy the "anywhere access pack" for a monthly fee to connect to a computer on a different network. So then i went to the Splashtop website, and saw that they are welcoming users fleeing Teamviewer because of their recent practices. This has made Teamviewer completely unusable. However, it actually disconnects me after about 40 seconds, and then makes me wait 15 minutes to connect again, for another 40 seconds. But this time there was also another message, saying that my session would be timed out after 5 minutes. Not sure what that could possibly mean or what they think they're "detecting", but i sent in the "declaration of personal use" document.Ī few weeks after that, i started getting the "commercial use detected" message again. First i got a popup that said "commercial use detected". But recently Teamviewer has become unusable. Years ago i used Logmein, but then they went paid only, so i switched to Teamviewer. None of this is business/commercial related in any way, and i don't ask for any compensation of any kind to help out my family and friends. Plus a handful of family and friends that i help out with their computer issues. ![]() My wife and i also have Surface tablets, and i also keep a personal PC in my office at work. ![]() A few are personal computers, 2 are home theater PC's, then there's a security camera server, a media file server, and a game server for my friends and i, for a game that had its official servers shut down a decade ago. I have 8 desktop windows PC's in my house. ![]()
